Vivian was born and raised in Grand Island where she attended St Mary's school and GI Business School. In 1942 she married Cecil S. Owen in Port Arthur, Texas where he was stationed for training in the US Army prior to being sent to Australia. Upon his return from WWII in 1946, they lived in Valentine, NE at the state fish hatchery, returning to Grand Island in 1950.
Vivian was baptized in St Mary's Cathedral where she sang in the choir for 40 years, and remained a parishioner until her death. She was also an active member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas, Court Ave Maria #1263.
In 1986 she retired, after 21 years as a billing clerk, from the City Light and Water Department. During retirement she became very involved in quilting, and was a member of the Prairie Pioneer and Morning Glories quilt groups. Over the years she made many quilts and wall hanging for her children and grandchildren which are cherished by all those who received them. A highlight of Vivian's life was always attending family events including decades of sports and school programs. She enjoyed baking and gardening which kept her busy and active for many years. Vivian was an avid reader and a book was always close by. She was a frequent visitor at the library where she volunteered. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and always looked forward to traveling across the country for visits. Her home was a place for family gatherings with baked goods readily available. We are thankful for her long and beautiful life and her unwavering dedication to her family and faith. She was an inspiration to all who knew her!
