Obituary

Virginia E. Werner, 91, of Good Samaritan Society, Wood River, NE. formerly of Grand Island, NE. went to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at St. Francis Skilled Care Unit. Services will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. The Rev Jack Gillam will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 7, 2014, from 4 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kay Werner of Grand Island, NE, a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Bruce Taylor of Kingwood, TX A sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Dwaine Lewis of Falbrook, CA., and five nephews. Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren and their spouses, Kellie and Steve Satterly, Stacie Werner, Samantha and Ben McCray and twin brothers Michael and Mitchell Taylor; and three great granddaughters, Addison, Emilynn, and Vivian Satterly. Virginia was born November 5, 1922, in Worms, NE, and grew up on the family farm. She was the daughter of Oscar H. and Ella(Simonson) Frederking. She was the oldest of three children. Virginias sisters were Lavergne Scott and Evelyn Lewis, formerly of Grand Island.. Virginia attended elementary school in Worms, Ne and received her high school education in Grand Island, graduating from G. I. Sr. High School, in 1940. Virginias first job was working in the office of Walnut Jr. High School. She then worked for Albert-Braune Fruit Company for 8 years and then worked for Roberts (Fairacres) Dairy as a bookkeeper retiring after 15 years of service. She married Clarence W. Werner, on August 2, 1946, in Omaha, NE., after his discharge from the U.S. Army. They lived in Grand Island and had been married 66 years prior to Mr. Werners death, June 7, 2013. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, its Altar Guild and Ladies Aid Society. She taught Sunday School for Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a Red Cross Volunteer and worked at the Hall County Election, Voter Registrations . She was known for her great smile, and was a gentle, kind woman. Virginia enjoyed traveling and playing cards and spoiling her grandchildren and her great grandchildren, whom she enjoyed greatly. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, or the Alzheimers Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence, and a sister, Lavergne Scott.
