Viola Katherine Fauquier, 96, and a longtime resident of Omaha, died peacefully on March, 11, 2013. She had been a resident at Wilton Meadows Nursing Facility in Wilton, CT since 2009. A graveside Memorial Service will be conducted at the Grand Island City Cemetery, Grand Island, NE on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. for members of her extended family. Rev. Chad Boling will officiate. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Viola was born January 12, 1917 in Grand Island, NE, the daughter of Carl and Lillian Stratman. Viola graduated from Grand Island High School in 1935 and worked as a secretary until she moved to Omaha in 1947 at which time she married Lawrence Fauquier. They were happily married for 56 years in Omaha until his death in 2003. She also was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Clarence and Irwin of Grand Island, and a sister, Evelyn Wells of Ontario, CA.
Viola worked for many years at St Catherines Nursing Home and later at Bergan Mercy Care Center as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1982.
Viola was active in the Order of the Eastern Star of Eastern Nebraska and active in various bowling leagues until her retirement. After retirement she and her husband Lawrence traveled around the US and Europe to visit their son as well as tending to her garden and pets.
Viola is survived by her son, Larry Fauquier of Ridgefield, CT.
