Steven D. Nichols, 62, of Grand Island, NE, died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at the Grand Island Veterans Home. Mr. Nichols wishes were to be cremated. Services will be Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Grand Island Veterans Home. Chaplin Bill Noer will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Aurora Cemetery in Aurora, NE following the service. Military honors will be rendered by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Team. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Steve was born July 12, 1955, in Nebraska City, NE. He was the son of Ernest and Lila (Whidden) Nichols. Survivors of the immediate family include his daughter and son-in-law, Threasa & Ron Johns of Hordville, NE Sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne & Tanya Nichols of Grand Island, NE Ernest Nichols of New York City, NY Sister, Kristine Elam of Bellevue, NE Brother, Douglas Nichols of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren, Destiny Burnett, Delaney Johns, Jacob Johns, Breonna Nichols, Adreonna Nichols, Brandon Nichols, and Braydon Nichols. Steve grew up in St. Paul, NE, before moving to Wood River, NE where he completed his high school education. He entered the U.S. Army on May 26, 1973 unit his honorable discharge ion May 22, 1976. He married Young Kang in 1977, at Doniphan, NE. He reenlisted on May 4, 1977, and was honorably discharged on December 1, 1982. Steve lived is several communities before settling in Grand Island. He worked for Sheffield Tree Service until health issues forced him to retire. Steve loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working his mechanic skills on old vehicles. Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Veterans Home.
