Obituary

Steve Gene Turtle Kirkpatrick, 53, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at St. Francis Skilled Care, with his family by his side after a long struggle with cancer. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2011, at Resurrection Catholic Church, with the Revs. Michael F. McDermott and Harold R. Kurtenbach officiating. Inurnment will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Steve was born November 4, 1957, at Grand Island, Nebraska, the son of Eugene & Joan (Roggy) Kirkpatrick. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 25 years, Dayna Kirkpartick of Grand Island, NE One son, Spencer Kirkpatrick, at home. Mother, Joan Kirkpatrick of Grand Island, NE Sister & brother-in-law, Jenny & Bob Herman of Grand Island, NE Sister-in-law, Karen Kirkpatrick of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish his memory include his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Warren & Dee Rodgers, Don & Allison Spencer Sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Deanna & Tim VanBriesen, Deidre & Charles Smith, Dr. Dan & Sarah Spencer, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Steve grew up in Grand Island, graduating from Northwest High School in 1977. He attended Kearney State College, later working for 1 years at New Holland. Steve began his 24 year career at Chief Automotive in 1979. He married Dayna Spencer, on June 29, 1985, at Grand Island, Nebraska. They lived in Grand Island. He continued his employment at Chief Automotive and also was a part-time installer for Dish as well. In 2008 he began working for MFS/York/Stormor, where he worked for 1 years until retiring due to health. Steve enjoyed being with family & friends, he was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, pheasant & deer hunting, camping, and time spent at Sherman Reservoir, his shop, and playing cards. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He is preceded in death by his father, Eugene, his brother, Mike Kirkpatrick, and grandparents, Bernard & LaVonne Roggy, Augustine & Georgia Kirkpatrick. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family for an educational fund for Steves son, Spencer. On-line condolences may be given at www.curranfuneralchapel.com.
