Obituary

Stephen Steve M. Halpin, 83, of Grand Island, Nebraska died Friday, August 24, 2012, with his family by his side, from complications of Parkinsons disease. Services will be Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Todd K. Philipsen and Rev. Francis T. Curran will concelebrate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitaiton will be Monday, August 27, 2012, from 4 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The family requests you wear green when attending the service to honor Steves Irish heritage. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Steve was born August 15, 1929, in Greeley County, the son of John & Margaret (Gray) Halpin. Survivors of the immediate family include: One son & daughter-in-law: Mike & Valarie Halpin of Lincoln, NE Four daughters & sons-in-law: Kathy & Steve Behring of Grand Island, NE Colleen & Gordon ONeill of Grand Island, NE Connie & Joseph Adams of Grand Island, NE Nancy Barker of Grand Island, NE 15 Grandchildren 11 Great Grandchildren Two sisters: Leona Thornton of Grand Island, NE Frances Cummings of Sebastopol, CA Mr. Halpin grew up in the Greeley area, attending a one-room school through the 8th grade. He then went to high school at Greeley Public School. He married Margaret Peggy Harrahill on February 18, 1950 at OConner, NE. They moved to Grand Island where he began working for O.P. Skaggs, learning the meat cutting trade. He was manager of the meat department at Skagway 5 Points for more then 20 years. He owned and operated Kelleys Market for a number of years. He was employed as a USDA meat inspector until his retirement. His wife Peggy died October 1, 2003. Steve loved spending time with his grandchildren and was always there for them. He enjoyed going to auctions & sales, and having coffee with his friends, and loved his Irish heritage. He is a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he served as an usher for 54 years. Memorials are to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Greeley Irish Festival Foundation, or the Parkinsons Foundation.
