Obituary

Spider Hansen, 77, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center, after spending the day with friends. Spiders wishes were to be cremated. A gathering of friends will be Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Platt-Duetsche. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Spider was born May 28, 1935, at Aurora, Nebraska. He was the son of Irving and Arlene (Meseraull) Hansen. He is survived by numerous cousins and many, many friends. Spider grew up in Grand Island, where he participated in many youth golf tournaments. He graduated from Grand Island Sr. High School in 1952. He attended the University of Nebraska before entering the U.S. Army on October 31, 1957, serving until his honorable discharge on August 8, 1960. He returned to Grand Island and was a police officer with the Grand Island Police Department. He later worked as a guard at the Ordinance Plant. After retiring he worked for Hughie Jakob. Spider was known for his wit and humor, even at the end, his love of animals and his dog Max, befriending dogs with treats in his driveway, and calling the Huskers the Big Red Pukes. He enjoyed playing golf, cards and was a sports fan. He was a member of the Platte-Duetsche and supported many charities. He is preceded in death by his parents.
