Obituary

Sharon Loretta Michalski, 81, Grand Island, NE died Monday, May 19, 2025, at Primrose Retirement Communities in Grand Island, NE.  Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral.  Rev. Thomas Vijumon Choorackal will be the celebrant.  Interment will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7 p.m.  Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.  You are encouraged to sign Sharon's guestbook at www.curranfuneralchapel.com under her obituary.  Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Sharon was born October 12, 1943, in St. Paul, NE, the daughter of Jens & Agnes (Schmidt) Hansen.

Survivors of the immediate family include her son, Richard Dean (Lisa) Michalski of Great Falls, Montana and their children, Kassie Lynne (Robert) Kemp of CA & Jeffery Dean (Mallory) Michalski of IL

Two Daughters, Kathleen Marie Michalski of Hastings, NE and her sons Noah John Michalski and Samuel Reuben Walton

Kristine Kay (Brian) Borland of Olathe, KS and their children, Alexander Nolan & Alyssa Kailee Borland

Six great grandchildren

Sisters-in-law:  Joan Hansen of Grand Island, NE

Donna Hansen of Lincoln, NE

Sharon grew up in Farwell and Dannebrog graduating from Dannebrog High School in 1961.  She worked for Elstermeier Floral Shop after high school until 1965.  She married Ray Michalski on April 8, 1964 at St. Paul, Nebraska.  They lived in Grand Island and she again worked for Elstermeier Floral Shop from 1986 to 1990.   In 1990 Sharon began working for the Law Enforcement Training Center and was

employed there until retiring in Jan of 2004 as an Office Clerk III.  In her retirement she continued to help Elstermeier Floral Shop and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and time at their lake cabin.    Ray died July 20, 2022.

Sharon enjoyed designing and arranging floral arrangements, crafts, fishing, traveling, animals, and the company of her dog Peaches.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, the Cathedral Ladies, Red Hat Society, Nebraska Admiral's Society, holding several board positions, and was Nebraska Admiral Navy Employee of Year in 1993, she was a member of the Platt-Duetsche Society and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray, brothers, Lavern and Eugene Hansen, sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn (Isadore) Jonak.
