Sena Katherine Kate Ripp, 89, of Grand Island, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the V. A. Medical Center. Services will be Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. Fr. Richard L. Piontkowski will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Team. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Kate was born April 3, 1923, at Moorefield, Nebraska. She was the daughter of George & Sena (Pedersen) Kjar.

Kate grew up in Moorefield, receiving her education at Moorefield High School graduating in 1939. After graduation she began her nurses training at Lincoln General graduating with a RN degree in 1942. She entered the U.S. Army on March 1, 1945 and served until Dec. 4, 1945. While in the service she enjoyed playing softball and exercising horses. In 1950 she entered Anesthesia School in Chicago, IL. She completed her training and in 1952 began working as an Anesthetist in several cities. She married Marvin L. Ripp on September 22, 1951, at Chicago. They moved to Grand Island, NE in 1957 and Kate worked for the St. Francis Hospital and the V. A. Medical Center as Staff Anesthetist until retiring in 1989. Mr. Ripp died in September of 1999 and her daughter Rita R. Kidder died in May of 2002.
She enjoyed quilting, needle work, and was an excellent seamstress. She loved butterflies.
She was a member of St. Marys Cathedral and St. Marys Quilting Ladies. She was a Catholic Daughters of Americas, Court Ave Maria #1263, a longtime member of Al-A-Non, living the words of the Serenity Prayer
She is welcomed into heaven by her husband, Marvin, one daughter Rita Rene Kidder, brothers & spouses, Kronborg & Dorothy Kjar, Marvin Kjar, Norman & Doris Kjar, & Ferd Kjar & Billie Kjar Heins, sisters & spouses, Dorothy Kjar, Olga & Marion Miller, Gladys & Lyle White.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Marys Cathedral, Salvation Army and its food pantry.
