Ruth E. Evy Larson, 93, of Grand Island, NE, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at St. Francis Skilled Care Unit with her family by her side. Services will be Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Pastor Dale Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, at Hastings, NE, with a 2:00 p.m. committal service. Visitation will be Monday, June 17, 2013, from 4 7 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Evy was born January 3, 1920, in McCool Junction, NE. She was the daughter of Clarence and Tessie (Plock) Sanders.
Survivors of the immediate family include a son & daughter-in-law, Terry and Kay Larson of Hastings, NE
A daughter Cyndie Larson & Marietta of Grand Island, NE
Two sisters & a brother-in-law, Virginia and Robert Hossle of Omaha, NE
Betty Gildersleeve of Hastings, NE
Others left to cherish her memory include 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
After graduating from Fairmont High School in 1937, Evy traveled to California where she met Courtney Larson, a New York native. They were married in 1940 at James Town, NY. They returned to Nebraska and located in Hastings, NE in 1943.
Evy worked as a waitress for many of her years eventually moving into management at the Hastings Legion Club and later into a position with the Hastings Regional Center retiring from their housekeeping department in 1981. Evy moved to Grand Island in 1993. Mr. Larson died in May of 1999.
Evy enjoyed cooking; she made the best pies, crocheting, gardening and was an accomplished musician.
She will be missed by her dachshund, Fritz.
While in Hastings she was a member of the First Methodist Church. She celebrated 26 years of sobriety with the Mustard Seeds.
In addition to her husband she is welcomed into heaven by her son, Robert, daughter Patricia Pederson and one grandchild, Rebecca Pederson and a brother-in-law, Richard Gildersleeve.
