Bob has always said that he has been a delivery boy his entire life. From 7th grade to 12th grade he had two paper routes. He was able to buy his first farm with the money he made from those paper routes. In high school he also worked for Fox Produce picking up and delivering eggs and chickens. Bob graduated from Kearney high school in 1949. He then attended Kearney State College.

Bob met the love of his life one day when he stopped at the Kearney Café after pheasant hunting and Louise was his waitress. Bob and Louise Theis were married on February 9, 1959, in Kearney, Nebraska. The couple lived in Lincoln, Grand Island, and Alda.

Bob began his career with the Postal Service with the Railway Postal Service (RPO) Service in the Omaha-Council Bluffs rail terminals in 1959. He served on the mail cars of trains picking up and dispatching mail through all parts of Nebraska and into neighboring states. Bob transferred to the Lincoln Post Office in 1961 and then to Grand Island in 1963. After eight years there he transferred to Wood River as a rural mail carrier. His route was in the Wood River and Shelton area. After 31 years of service he retired from the Postal Service and then worked full-time at farming and ranching.

Bob had a true love of hunting, especially pheasant hunting. He was proud to be a farmer and rancher. Bob also loved baseball and played on farm teams in and around Kearney as a pitcher. Bob was a man of deep faith who loved God as well as his family and country.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wood River, Knights of Columbus, National Rural Letter Carriers Association, NRA, and the Elks Club.
