Obituary

Robert A. "Bob" Berg, 82, of Yankton, SD formerly of Grand Island, NE, died Thursday, November 16, 2023, in Yankton, SD. Mr. Berg was cremated. Graveside service with inurnment will be Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Thomas A. Ryan will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy Honor Team. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting Goglin Funeral Homes and Crematory and the family with local arrangements. Robert "Bob" was born March 31, 1941 at Virginia Minnesota to Lyle Joseph and Elizabeth Katherine (Smith) Berg. He grew up in Minnesota then moving to Duluth in 1950 where he graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1959. He entered the U.S. Navy and served eight years as an Administrative Clerk in Jacksonville Florida; Norfolk Virginia; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Glenview, Illinois and aboard ship in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1967. While in the service Bob met then Married Miriam A. Kerns on August 8, 1964 in Elgin, Illinois. After his discharge they lived in Springfield, Ohio for a year, before moving to Covington Kentucky where Bob worked for American Air Lines, greater Cincinnati area for eight years. While there he also attended Northern Kentucky State, graduating in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. Bob was employed as assistant Director of Arkansas Student Loan Authority; Amsoil Inc., as inventory accountant, and bank Examiner for FDIC before moving to Grand Island, Nebraska as an accountant within the VA System before ending his Accounting career. Bob then worked Cabala's as a customer service representative for 71/2 years, retiring in 2003. Miriam died April 17, 2002, during his retirement Bob managed the Plum Street Station until July of 2011. Bob married Dorothea "Dot" Blaha on Sept 3, 2011 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island, Neb. They made there home in Yankton, South Dakota. Bob was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church while in Grand Island, as well as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a life member of DAV. After his move to Yankton he remained active in Knights of Columbus and became a Life member of the VFW and an active Monday night Cribbage player. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Military order of the Cooties. He is survived by his wife "Dot" of Yankton, Brothers; William (Brother Andrew), John (Marion) Berg and Andrew and sister Chere Meyers and Sister-in-law Toni Berg. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and "Dot's children, grand children and great grandchildren and extended family. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Miriam, Sister Louise Rutka and brothers Lyle and Charles Berg.
