Richard E. Zastrow, 84, of Grand Island, NE, died Sunday, December 17, 2017, at CHI Health – St. Francis in Grand Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. James R. Golka, Rev. Mark A Maresh will concelebrate the funeral mass. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 20, 2017, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Richard was born September 29, 1933 to Adolph and Mary (Simmons) Zastrow at Hubbard, NE. The family moved to Hastings, NE in 1944. He graduated from St. Cecelia's High School. He served in the U.S. Army from July 23, 1953 to June 9, 1955.
He married Marilyn J. Streit at St. Cecelia's Church in Hastings on April 27, 1957. The family moved to Grand Island in 1959. He set up computer operations and served as supervisor of the departments at G.W. Martin Co., First National Bank and New Holland. He retired in 1991, after 25 years with the New Holland company.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish, where he served as an usher and on the finance and parish council committees, Riverside Golf Club, where he served on the Holding Association Board and on the long-range greens committee.
His leisure activities included time with his family, golf, travel, reading and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Grand Island, NE; daughter, Susan Nagy of Clayton, CA; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Luann of Lincoln, Paul and Patty of St Paul, MN, and Stuart of Omaha; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Kassing of Sioux City, IA, and Catherine Cassidy of Blue Springs, MO; brothers, Fr. John of Lincoln, Bernard of Waukegan, IL, and Lawrence and Clarice of Kansas City, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Douglas; a son-in-law, Paul Nagy, two sisters, Magdalene Headley and Mary Terry, and a brother, Joseph.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Grand Island Central Catholic or St. Mary's Cathedral.
