Obituary

Randy A. Steskal, 57, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the V. A. Medical Center. Mr. Steskal's wishes were to be cremated. The family will celebrate his life with a service on Monday, April 21, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Military honors will be provided by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U. S. Navy Honor Team. The Rev. Sheri Lodel will officiate. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Randy was born November 3, 1956, at Atkinson, Nebraska. He was the son of Elmer and Eva (Shaffer) Steskal. Survivors of the immediate family include his sons, Eli Merryman of Seymour, IA Justin Steskal of St. Joseph, MO Daughters and son-in-law, Adriana Merryman of Seymour, IA Sarah Steskal of Plymouth, MA Heather and Mark Mercer and their daughter Maggie of Plymouth, MA His mother, Eva Meredith and her husband Danny of Bucklin, KS Brothers and sisters-in-law, Rod Steskal of Clay Center, NE Rick and Melanie Steskal of Bassett, NE Ron and Barb Steskal of Atkinson, NE Sisters and brothers-in-law, Sherril McKeown of Omaha, NE Cindy and Lonnie Pomajzl of Crete, NE Kathy and Charlie Nordhues of Norfolk, NE Kim Bourn of Michigan Kris McDonald of Gothenburg, NE Randy grew up in Atkinson graduating from West Holt High School in 1975. He entered the U.S. Navy on July 14, 1975 serving until his honorable discharge on August 17, 1979. He returned to Grand Island and was united in marriage to LaDonna Downs on October 20, 1979, at Grand Island, NE. They moved to Doniphan in 1980. Randy attended Central Community College – Hastings Campus. He completed his Associate Degree in Business and began his career with Walgreens as a Store Manager in Hastings, NE and several communities in Iowa. He returned to Grand Island where he was grounds keeper at Resident Suites Inn, retiring in 2013. Randy loved working. He enjoyed the outdoors and playing pool in his free time. Memorials are suggested to the V. A. Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Steskal and a brother, Roger Steskal.
