Obituary

Ramona "Mona" Mora, 90, of Aurora, NE, formerly of Phillips, NE, died Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Westfield Quality Care of Aurora in Aurora, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jorge Canela will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date. You are encouraged to sign Mona's guestbook at www.curranfuneralchapel.com under her obituary. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Mona was born August 31, 1933, at Oxford, KS. The daughter of Gregorio & Bonifica (Martinez) Hernandez. She grew up in Oxford, KS attending school there. She worked in the beet fields in that area. Mona married Dennis R. Mora on January 5, 1957 at Sutherland, NE. She was employed with TRW for 21 years, until the family moved to Grand Island in 1964. She worked at Leon Plastics for three years, Delicious Foods for three years and Monforts for six years before retiring. Dennis died May 5, 2015. Mona's favorite hobby was cooking for her family and anyone that would show up at her home. When Ramona lived in Phillips she would drive to Grand Island every single day, but you had better watch out everyone because here comes Mona, she always drove like Speedy Gonzales. She went to Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral every Saturday at 5 p.m. until she could no longer drive. She loved to listen to Mexican music, sing, and dance. She enjoyed playing Bingo. She loved spending time with her children and was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. God truly blessed Mona with a long life. All your wonderful memories will be cherished! Fly high my beautiful angel until we meet again your unconditional love for us lives on in our thoughts and hearts forever. Mona was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Cathedral Ladies, she and Dennis volunteered for St. Mary's Funeral Committee for seven years, and she was a member of Catholic Daughters Court Ave Maria # 1263. Survivors include: Two daughters: Florence Hernandez of Omaha, NE. Gloria Ramirez of Phillips, NE. Two sons: Dan (Judy) Mora of Grand Island, NE. Ray (Yvonne) Mora of Grand Island, NE. Granddaughter that she raised, Tonya Casillas Vazquez of Omaha, NE and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. One brother: Lasaro (Rose) Hernandez of Cheyenne, WY Two sisters: Ruth & Willy Martinez of Sutherland, NE. Angel & Mauro Sanchez of Grand Island, NE. Preceded by: parents, Gregoria and Bonifica Hernandez, husband Dennis Mora, grandson Dana Mora, sisters: Jennie Gonzales, Juanita "Janet" Munoz, brothers, Pete, Elias, Paul, George, John, Paniflo.
