Obituary

Pauline L. "Polly" Hupf, 93, of Grand Island, NE, died Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Westfield Quality Care of Aurora, in Aurora, NE. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark A. Maresh will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 6 p.m. The funeral mass will be livestreamed on St. Leo's Catholic Church Facebook page. Memorials are suggested to Grand Island Central Catholic. Your thoughts and prayers may be given and her video can be viewed at www.curranfuenralchapel.com under Pauline's obituary. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Polly was born August 8, 1928, in Orleans, NE. The daughter of Herman and May L. (Hodge) Malone. She grew up on a farm near Orleans with four brothers and one sister. She graduated from Huntley High School in 1945. After high school she moved to Hastings, NE where she lived with her older sister Ilene. Pauline worked for Maude McCauley Insurance Company and later Kansas Nebraska Gas Company. She married Leonard Hupf on September 10, 1949, at Hastings St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings, NE. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1957, where they raised their four children. Polly was a 4-H leader for her girls when they were growing up. Polly's last position was secretary to the Grand Island City Attorney until she retired. Leonard died April 10, 2011. Polly loved researching family genealogy and her genealogy research trips. She was an excellent cook and always welcomed family gatherings to share her talent. She was a gifted seamstress, tailoring many outfits for her children and herself. She loved to travel especially the family trips to Colorado and Yellowstone. She was an avid dancer, spending many a weekend attending dances throughout the area. She loved her German heritage, Catholic faith, volunteering when and where ever needed, and rooting for the Huskers. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, G.I. Legal Secretary Association, TOPS, and the Liederkranz. Polly is survived by one son & daughter-in-law, Thomas & Linda Hupf of Rosedale, New Jersey Three daughters & two sons-in-law, Debra & Roger Sweley of Grand Island, NE Barbara & Larry McGowan of Schuyler, NE Mary Jane Hupf of Omaha, NE Sisters-in-law, Mrs. Paul (Gladys) Hupf of Hastings, NE Mrs. Don (Dolores) Hupf, now Mrs. Bernard Herbek of Omaha, NE Others left to cherish her memory include grandchildren, Thomas Hupf Jr, Jeffrey Hupf, Laura (Dale) Sweley-Buettner, Valerie (Kyle) Hansen, Sara (Josh) Kucera, Luke (Tia) McGowan, Molly (Andy) Cada & Erin (Derek) Bennett. 13 great grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, and lifelong friend, Mrs. Phil (Ethel) Higgason of Ralston, NE. Polly is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leonard, infant brother, Johnny Malone, siblings and their spouses, Ilene (Hank) Uhden, Lee (Bernice) Malone, Melvin (Mildred) Malone, Leo "Jack" (Florence) Malone, James (Jan) Malone.
