Patricia A. "Pat" O'Malley, 89, of Grand Island, NE, died Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Wedgewood Care Center with family at her side. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. James R. Golka will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 16, 2018, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 6 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Pat was born June 27, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Charles and Marie (Cech) Swoboda.

Others left to cherish her memory include her 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Pat grew up in Omaha, NE before moving with her family to Hastings, NE. She graduated from Hastings St. Cecilia in 1946. She attended Mount Saint Scholastica College in Atchison, KS for a semester. She then moved to Grand Island where she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. She married Thomas O'Malley on February 11, 1950 in Grand Island. Pat and Tom worked side by side to build their first family home. As their family grew, they moved to a much larger house, where they raised their family and she continued to live for 53 years. Thomas died in 1993. She was a master seamstress, sewing for her family, and many others. She also worked for 20 years selling tables on the Skyline during Fonner Park Race seasons. She enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles and grocery shopping. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren's accomplishments and loved the times they all gathered together to celebrate family.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Liederkranz, St. Mary's Cathedral, or the donor's choice.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas, brother, Frank Swoboda, a sister, Alice Hackley, son-in-law William Vanis, and daughter-in-law Sharon O'Malley.
