Obituary

Patricia Ann (Holmgrain) Mattison, 75, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, at Southlake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lincoln.  Graveside service will be Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 1 p.m. in Cedarview Cemetery, Doniphan, NE.  The Rev. David Oldham as celebrant.  A full memorial service is being planned for a later date.  Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity that Patty held near and dear to her heart.  You are encouraged to sign Patty's guestbook at www.curranfuneralchapel.com under her obituary.  Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Patty was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 5th, 1949, to Theresa (Mendyk) Holmgrain Cavanaugh and Edgar Holmgrain, the youngest sister to Vada (Holmgrain) Rieflin and Nanette Holmgrain. A sensitive child, she was known from an early age to nurture animals, once finding a mouse on her way home from school, which she wrapped up in her sweater and brought home, a tendency she carried into adulthood, as she took in any dog that needed a home with her own children.

A beloved mother and grandmother, Patty was known for her dedication to creating special moments, from the way she painstakingly decorated for every holiday, to the way she catalogued all her children's report cards, awards and keepsakes. Through numerous hardships, she never wavered in her determination to build a life for herself and her children, finally settling in Hildreth, Nebraska in 1996, where she became an integral member of a close-knit community.

Patty retired from the Becton Dickinson syringe factory in 2004, spending much of her retirement by the lake in Taylor Manor, Nebraska, with her longtime companion Bill Blunt and her dogs, visiting her children around the country—from parasailing with her son on Catalina Island, California to enjoying craft fairs with her daughter in Colorado—and spending time with her growing brood of grandchildren.

Patty is survived by her sons Christopher, Abraham and Joshua Kinney, her daughters Jordan (Kinney) Lovato and Casey (Mattison) Akins, and grandchildren Alexia, Trinity, Ja'Ziyah, La'Riyah, Simone, Hazel, and Georgiana, and her sister Vada.

Patty was preceded in death by her sister Nanette, her parents Theresa and Edgar, her son Benjamin Kinney, her granddaughter Anniston Lovato, and her companion Bill Blunt.
