Obituary

Norman A. "Norm" Rohweder, 83, of Grand Island, NE, died Friday, December 1, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society – Grand Island Village, surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, December 11, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. James R. Golka, Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski Jr., Rev. James J. Janovec, Rev. James H. Heithoff, and Fr. Mark A. Maresh, will concelebrate the funeral mass. Interment will be in the St. Libory's Catholic Cemetery with a 1:30 p.m. committal service. Visitation will be Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. More details will appear later. Norm was born November 7, 1934, at Grand Island, NE. He was the son of August and Florence (Wilmarth) Rohweder. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 56 years, Suzanne Rohweder of Grand Island, NE Children and spouses, Todd (Karen) Rohweder of Omaha, NE Laurie (Joe) Gillogly of Omaha, NE Mike (Sheila) Rohweder of Grand island, NE Monica (Craig) Deats of Goodyear, AZ Others left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren, Tyler Rohweder, Zachary (Amy) Rohweder, Morgan (Andrew) Nielsen, Taylor Gillogly, Nick Gillogly, Jack Gillogly, John Rohweder, Kathryn Rohweder, Erin Deats, Brody Deats, and a great granddaughter, Lennon Jo Nielsen. Norm grew up in Grand Island graduating from St. Mary's School in 1952. He began his employment with the Union Pacific Railroad immediately out of high school. He married Suzanne Rock on February 14, 1961, at St. Libory, NE. They lived in Grand Island and without hesitation Norm opened his heart and home to Sue's siblings following a tragic accident that killed her parents. He retired as a conductor in 1997 after 45 years with the railroad and was highly respected by all his coworkers. Family was important to Norm, his grandchildren were very special to him. He loved following his children's and grandchildren's school and sporting activities. He especially enjoyed family time at Johnson Lake. He was an avid duck hunter, Husker football fan, and enjoyed his GICC family. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral. Norm's family would like to thank Sister Ann Ference, AseraCare and Good Samaritan for their care and support. Norm is welcomed into heaven by his parents, sisters, Joann Rohweder, Phyllis Rohweder, Beverly Sullivan and a brother Wendell Rohweder.
