Obituary

Nancy Lee Merten, 83, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Monday, January 1, 2024, at Grand Island Regional Medical Center. Nancy's wish was to be cremated. Private family inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date. Nancy was born August 9, 1940, in Shelby Nebraska, the daughter of Carl & Ethel (Adams) Kubicek. She grew up and received her education in Columbus, Nebraska until 1956 when her family moved to Azusa, California where she graduated in 1958 from Glendora High School. She then married William Moody on July 19, 1958, at St. Francis Assisi Church in Azusa, California. The couple traveled with the Navy. Nancy moved to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1977. She was employed at Delicious Foods (McCaine Foods) for several years and in 1980 started working at Leon Plastics, Inc. as a machine operator. She married Nick L. Merten on August 21, 1982 making their home in Grand Island. Nancy enjoyed reading. Survivors of the immediate family include her sons William "Buzz" L. Moody of Dublin, TX Victor J. Moody of San Antonio, TX Daughter Tammera S. Howell of Grand Island, NE Stepsons: David C. and Virginia "Jean" Merten of St. Joseph, MO Nick K. and Nancy Merten of Grand Island, NE Paul J. and Becky Merten of Lawson, MO 14 Grandchildren 11 Great-grandchildren Two sisters-in-law: Sue Kubicek of Modesto, CA Judy Kubicek of Glendora, CA Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nicholas "Nick" L. Merten, daughter, Katherine A. Moody, son-in-law, Kenneth Howell, stepdaughter, Katherine Gosda, brothers Carl Kubicek, and Wayne Kubicek.
