Obituary

Nancy L. Fruchtl, 80, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Thursday, January 19, 2017, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, surrounded by her loving family. Nancy's wishes were to be cremated. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 23, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. Concelebrants are Fr. Scott M. Harter, Fr. Thomas A. Ryan, and Fr. Richard L. Piontkowski. Private family inurnment will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, January 22, 2017, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Nancy was born June 27, 1936, at Reading, PA. She was the daughter of Louis and Helen (Chelius) Twardowski. Survivors of her immediate family include her husband of 58 years, Lew Fruchtl of Grand Island, NE Children and their spouses, Steve Fruchtl of Russellville, AR Diane (Darrell) Kile of Superior, NE Karen Overfield of Beatrice, NE Dennis (Rosie) Fruchtl of Grand Island, NE Douglas Fruchtl of Lincoln, NE Sister and brother-in-law, Lucille (Robert) Klein of Annapolis, MD Brother, Thomas Twardowski and fiancé Lisa Ciotti of Reading, PA Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren and spouses, McKinzie Fruchtl, Kameron (Ashtin) Fruchtl, Matthew (Markee) Kile, Leslie (Brett) Behrends, Megan Overfield and special friend Conner Pahl, Austin "A.J." (Jessica) Fruchtl, Blake Fruchtl and her great grandchildren, Brynley and Baylor Behrends, and Chamberlyn Fruchtl. Nancy grew up in Reading, PA graduating Valedictorian from Central Catholic High School in 1954. She continued her education at St. Joseph Nursing College in Reading, PA where she also graduated Valedictorian in 1956. She began working at St. Joseph Hospital in Reading, PA. She married Lewis J. "Lew" Fruchtl on April 19, 1958 at Reading, PA. They lived in Lancaster, PA and Nancy continued working for St. Joseph Hospital in Lancaster. The family moved to Grand Island in 1966. Nancy worked as a RN at St. Francis Medical Center until retiring in 1979. Nancy was an avid reader and a daily Jeopardy player, loved working crossword puzzles, and traveled extensively with Lew. She loved following her grandchildren's sporting events. Nancy was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Cathedral Ladies, a Eucharistic Minister, and member of the No Name Study Club. She is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Tim Fruchtl. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral.
