Monica Mickey Zimmerman, 92, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society-Wood River. A memorial mass will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church. Fr. Michael F. McDermott will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time with a rosary recited prior to the mass. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Mickey was born on the family farm southwest of Spalding, NE on April 30, 1923. She was the daughter of John and Mary (McCarthy) Naughtin.
She is survived by a son, Rick Zimmerman of Daytona Beach, FL

Mickey attended grade school at Hilltop School and graduated from Spalding Academy in 1940. She married Eugene Zimmerman at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, CA, on September 3, 1943. Mickey returned to Spalding while Zimmy was touring with the 107th Calvary Army Band on the West coast.
They moved to Grand Island, Mickey worked as the Horsemans Bookkeeper at Fonner Park for five years before beginning her 27 year career with the City of Grand Island Utilities division, in the accounts payable department. She was very conscientious and often went in on weekends to balance her books. She found her work interesting and enjoyable and liked working with her co-workers and customers. She also worked part-time at St. Francis Medical Center in Medical Records.
Mickey and Zimmy enjoyed countless hours of dancing.
Zimmy was murdered in 1979. After which Mickey was instrumental in organizing the local chapter of Crime Stopper. She was supported by her daughter Rebecca, through many years of legal proceedings and trials, and was so grateful for her family, friends, co-workers, police and lawyers. Mickeys daughter Rebecca died in September of 1999 after battling cancer.
She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Zimmy, daughter, Rebecca, and sisters and brother-in-law, Rita and Stan Menck, Mary Clare Naughtin.
