Mellie Robbins Mailander, 94, of Grand Island, NE died Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at CHI Health- St. Francis. Millie’s wish was to be cremated. Her life will be celebrated Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Sheri Lodel will officiate. The service will be livestreamed on Curran Funeral Chapel’s Facebook page. Private inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Mellie was born November 7, 1931, in Taylor, NE she is the daughter of Roy and Eva (Fox) Dimmitt. The family moved to Grand Island in 1932 making it their home. Mellie married Eugene A. Robbins in 1953. To this marriage three sons were born, Richard, Randy, and Ronald. She was a dedicated mother and loved family gatherings for BBQ’s, football games, and cards. Mellie worked at several cafes before beginning her 38 year career at the Grand Generation Center. Working allowed her to make many lasting friendships along with meeting so many new people. Mr. Robbins died in 1976. Mellie married Harold E. Mailander in 1988 continuing to make Grand Island her home. Mr. Mailander died in 1998.

Mellie was a loving and caring person who treasured her family and friends. She will always be remembered and dearly missed.

Ronald Robbins (Brenda Webb) of Grand Island, NE

Grandchildren: Russ (Jennifer) Robbins, Reuben Robbins (Ashley Wiedel), Danielle Hasselman Robbins.

Great grandchildren: Thomas (Kari) Robbins, Brooklyn Quick.

Step sister-in-law: Wanda Minor.

Step daughters: Deb Mailander, Jeri Mailander, Micheala (Dean) Buschek.

Step-son: Mike (Pat) Mailander and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mellie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s, Eugene Robbins and Harold Mailander, son, Randy, sisters, infant Betty Rose, Dolly DeBlase, Darlene Nelson, and Bonnie Hodgson, brothers, Rolland Dimmitt and Jerry Dimmitt, her great step-grandsons, Patrick Hasselmann and Jon Buscher.

The family would like to thank the staff and management of The Heritage at Sagewood and the 5th floor staff at CHI Health St. Francis for their outstanding care, as well as Curran Funeral Chapel for their exceptional guidance during a difficult time.
