Obituary

Mary Ann Huebner, 84, of Grand Island, NE, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society – Wood River, in Wood River, NE. Services will be Monday, October 30, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Thomas A. Ryan will officiate. Mary will be cremated following services. Private family inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 29, 2017, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Mary was born February 28, 1933, at Fullerton, Nebraska. She was the daughter of John and Dorothy (Cuba) Tarnick. Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Diane Huebner of Grand Island, NE A daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Carl Woods of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Desiree and Adam Rodenbaugh, Anthony Huebner and Derek Huebner and three great grandchildren, Jacob, Alex, Damon Rodenbaugh. Mary grew up in Fullerton until moving with her family to Grand Island as a child. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1951. She married Roderick D. "Rod" Huebner on February 14, 1953 at Grand Island, NE. The couple lived in California while Rod was serving with the military returning to Grand Island upon his honorable discharge. Mary worked at Ben Rexall Drug Store, worked with her husband, Rod, at the Hub Lounge, Satellite, and Lager Lounge, but was best known for working at the courtesy counter at both the north and south Skagway stores. Her husband, Rod died in February 1999 and her son John died in November 2013. Mary cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid horse racing fan, and enjoyed keno and video poker. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Platt-Duetsche Society. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rod, son, John, grandson, Carl Woods Jr., sisters, Stella Balasa Esther Feik, and Katherine Schuyler.
