Marie L. Sekora, 91, of Grand Island, NE, died Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, in Hastings, NE. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Monday, September 8, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral, in Grand Island, NE. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski Jr. will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2014, from 5 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Marie was born September 25, 1922, in Clay County near Spring Ranch. She was the daughter of John and Lillian (Wolfe) Lipovsky.

Others left to cherish her memory include her seven grandchildren, Brook Sekora, Derek Sekora, Adam Sekora, Blake Sekora, Lindsay Williams, Liam and Kellen Ireland.
Marie was educated at a rural school and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1939. She worked as a waitress at Daltons Caf in Hastings. During the war years she worked as a waitress at the University Club in Lincoln and was also employed at the Western Electric Company in Lincoln on the assembly line as a wiring electrician on telephone cables which were used during World War II. On September 3, 1946, she married Edward Sekora at St. Martins Catholic Church (Loucky) near Deweese, NE. They lived in Clay County and then Nuckolls County where her husband farmed. Marie was a full time homemaker and also held various positions in the church Altar Society and the Extension Club in Nelson for many years. She was a member of the auxiliary of V.F. W. Post 7197 and the Legion Club in Nelson. She moved with her husband to Grand Island in 1992 and attended St. Marys Cathedral. She was a member of the Altar Society and D.C.C.W. (Diocesan Council of Catholic Women). Ed died May 13, 2003.
Marie loved to cook and bake. Her specialties were kolaches and pies. She was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her children each day and was immensely proud of her family. She enjoyed people and was so full of life. Her life was her faith, family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Lillian Lipovsky, her husband Edward, and sister, Elsie Karmazin.
Memorials are suggested to the familys choice, spiritual bouquet offerings, or to St. Marys Cathedral.
