Obituary

Marianne G. Koziol, 85, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Tiffany Square Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 19, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Martin L. Egging, Rev. Michael F. McDermott, Rev. Mark A. Maresh, Rev. James Schmitt, will concelebrate the funeral mass. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the church with a vigil service and rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family with a fund being established at a later date. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Marianne was born November 6, 1931, at Silver Creek, NE. The daughter of Philip and Helen (Jarecke) Sock. She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael who died November 17, 1986. Survivors of her immediate family include her children and spouses, Geraldine and Sam Zaruba of Wood River, NE Tony and Margaret Koziol of Grand Island, NE Tim Koziol of Grand Island, NE Tom and Cindy Koziol of Bennington, NE Christine and Ken Durand of Grand Island, NE Michalene and Randy Iversen of Grand Island, NE Ted and Kristen Koziol of Shawnee Mission, KS One sister Barb Moore of Columbus, NE Two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Alberta Sock of Silver Creek, NE Phil and Sue Sock of Longmont, CO Jerry and Janice Sock of Loup City, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her 18 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Marianne grew up on a farm near Silver Creek, NE. She attended District 23 in Polk County, Silver Creek High School and graduated from St. Bond's in Columbus, NE, in 1950. She married Michael F. Koziol on October 11, 1954, at Silver Creek. They lived in Grand Island where she was employed by State Farm Mutual Insurance, National Cash Register and later H&R Block. Marianne operated a ceramic business out of her home and was bookkeeper for her husband's business Koziol Upholstery. She retired in 1995. She was a 4-H Leader for the Fashion Dolls and Guys club while her children were young. Marianne's hobbies include ceramics, gardening, canning, making rosaries, sewing and traveling. Saturday's were baking days for Marianne. Everyone especially enjoyed her pies and donuts in addition to her peanut clusters and her infamous surprise cereal bars. Many people may not realize this, but Marianne also enjoyed roller coasters, a love which has been passed down to some of her children and grandchildren. She is a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, was involved in altar society, choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was active in GICC Fine Arts Guild, serving as past treasurer, vice president, and president and was one of the original founding members of Karnival Kapers Committee at GICC. She was a member of Catholic Daughters Court Ave Maria #1263 and was past regent of the court before transferring to Court Queen of Peace ##2227, and was a member of the Ceramic Association. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Michael Koziol, sisters, Betty Sock, Helen Reimers, and brothers, Roman, Jim, and Jack Sock, and a brother-in-law, Bill Moore.
