Marian M. "Grandma Penny" Penas, 93, of Grand Island, NE, died peacefully at her home on Friday, February 12, 2021. Marian's wish was to be cremated and no services are scheduled at this time. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Grandma Penny was born July 16, 1927, in Ord, NE. She was the daughter of Fred and Tracy (Parkos) Skala. She grew up in Ord, NE where she attended school. She married Elmer Penas on September 15, 1945, in Ord. They moved to Grand Island, NE in 1956, where they raised their family. Marian began working outside the home after all her children were in school. She was employed at Delicious Food's and later Wedgewood Care Center before caring for her grandchildren. Grandma Penny was the best babysitter ever!!
Marian loved the out of doors, was an avid gardener, and the best weeder. She would spend hours pulling weeds in her flower garden and also in her son's large garden. She was a wonderful cook and loved to bake for family. She enjoyed puzzles, polka dancing, and on Tuesday and Thursday night you could find her watching her favorite show, WWE Wrestling. She will be missed by her beloved furry friends, chihuahuas, Minnie and Missie. Elmer Penas died April 7, 2011.
Marian is survived by her son, Verne (Patty) Penas of Grand Island, NE and their children, Shauna, Tanya, Mandy, and Kiffin
Daughters, Marlene Leece of Grand Island, NE and her children Kristen, Brenda, and Charles
Norma Lacy of Elwood, NE and her children Tricia and Shasta
Daughter-in-law, Pam Penas of Grand Island, NE and her children, Andrea, Brandon, Ashley, Bubba, Abby, and Brady
She will also be remembered by her 35 great grandchildren, with one more great granddaughter expected in March, and three great great grandchildren. She will especially be remembered by her great granddaughter Kinley Zuelow who took extra care of Grandma Penny.
Marian is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer, son, Darrell Penas, sons-in-law, Gary Leece, Larry Lacy, nine brothers and two sisters.
Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
