Margaret M. Stroup, 98, of Grand Island, NE, passed away peacefully at Tiffany Square Care Center, on October 8, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 12, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Scott M. Harter will celebrate the funeral mass. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2018, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a Catholic Daughter's Rosary recited at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral. Curran Funeral Chapel is caring for the family.
Margaret was born February 22, 1920, at Colome, SD. She was the daughter of William and Mary Ellen (London) Donovan.
Margaret attended elementary school at St. Francis Indian School on Rosebud Reservation, SD, and graduated high school from St. Mary's Academy in O'Neill, NE in 1937. She attended Van Sant Business College in Omaha, NE following high school and then married C. V. Stroup on February 20, 1941, in the Catholic Church in New Almelo, KS. They moved to Spalding, NE and raised a family and later to Grand Island, NE where they worked as distributors for the Omaha World Herald. Margaret later worked as a receptionist at the Nebraska Veterans Home for 17 years until her retirement. Her husband, C.V. died June 2, 2006.
Margaret enjoyed quilting, making braided rugs, and crafts.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Cathedral Ladies, and Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Ave Maria #1263.

Daughter, Mary (Terry) Flakus of Kansas City, MO
Son-in-law, Ron Johansen of Grand Island, NE
Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Jessica (Chuck) Perkins, Lucina (James) Lurz, Maggie (tony) Squires, Christina Stroup and Reed Welke, Zak Johansen and Christin Borchers, and six great grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Pam Johansen, granddaughter, Sarah Leach, brothers, Bill, Jerry, Francis, Joe, Ed Donovan, and a sister, Lenore McKenna.
