Obituary

Margaret A. Jensen, 85, of Grand Island, NE, died Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society Grand Island Village, surrounded by her family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 23, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski Jr. and Rev. Michael F. McDermott will concelebrate the mass. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22, 2015, from 5 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Margaret was born December 4, 1929, at Carrolltown, SD. She was the daughter of Francis D. and Mary Anne (Scheehan) Carroll. Survivors of the immediate family include her sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Lorri Jensen of Grand Island, NE Bill and Linda Jensen of Austin, TX Daughter, JoAnn Jensen of Grand Island, NE Sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Sharkey of Gillette, WY Marie and Joe Gray of Phoenix, AZ Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Lisa (Jerry) Riordan, Ashely and Billy Jensen. Great grandchildren, Noah and Dylan Riordan, and numerous nieces and nephews and her good friend Barb Winters. Margaret received her education at Olsonville, SD, graduating in 1947 from St. Francis Mission in St. Francis, SD. She continued her education at Chadron State where she completed her teaching certificate. She married Mark H. Jensen Jr. on May 20, 1950, at Chadron, NE. They lived in Chadron and Margaret taught at rural schools in the Valentine, Chadron and Gurley area. In 1967 she and her family moved to North Platte. She continued teaching in the rural school system of Sutherland and North Platte at Miller and Hall Schools retiring in 1977. She also was bookkeeper for her husbands business, Marks Trucking until they both retired in 1989. Margaret continued to be active working part time after retiring. Mr. Jensen died May 7, 1997. She enjoyed traveling throughout the US, Hawaii, and many bus tours to the casinos. Her house plants thrived as she had a green thumb and she loved watching soap operas, word search, crocheting, garage sales, and leather working. She was a past member of St. Patrick in North Platte and the North Platte Eagles Auxiliary #2839. Memorials are suggested to St. Marys Cathedral Food Pantry (Camilles Cupboard) or Siena/Francis House, 1702 Nicholas St., Omaha, NE 68102.
