Louis N. Louie Hurt Jr, 80, of Grand Island, died Friday, January 16, 2015, at Wedgewood Care Center. Services will be Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Todd K. Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Mr. Hurt was born June 19, 1934, on a farm near Dwight, NE. He was the son of Louis & Agnes O. (Houdik) Hurt Sr.
Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters, Cheryl Buckmaster of Lincoln, NE
Gwen Bamesberger and friend Rick Stelk of Alda, NE
One son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sara Hurt of Elm Creek, NE
One sister & brother-in-law, Georgie & Fred Hromas of Omaha, NE
Two brothers & sisters-in-law, Dennis & Joann Hurt of Nelson, NE
John & Ann Hurt of Sidney, NE
Others left to cherish his memory include five grandchildren, and one great grandchild, two step grandchildren and one step great grandchild. He is also survived by several nieces & nephews and a special friends Gail Morris and Kimberly Haverluck and family.
Mr. Hurt attended schools in the Dwight area and left school in the 10th grade to help his father farm near Dwight. In 1958, he married Maxine Timms and started farming near Valparaiso, NE and worked at a Lumber Factory in Seward. In 1968 they moved to Grand Island, where he was employed at Bosselmans Truck Stop. In 1973 he married Rita and worked at Green Line Equipment. He then returned and continued working for Bosselmans and married Kaye Drew in 1980. He became disabled to work in 1983.
Louis looked forward to spending time with his family, helping his friends, bowling, fishing, and enjoyed going to casinos, auctions and thrift stores shopping for collectables.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, and a step grandchild.
