Lewis F. Hayes, 87, of Grand Island, NE, formerly of McCook, NE, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society – Grand Island Village. Mr. Hayes wishes were to be cremated. Inurnment will be at a later date at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Lewis was born January 21, 1930, at Central City NE. He was the son of Fred and Hannah (Thompson) Hayes.
Survivors of his immediate family include his wife of 63 years, Dolores Hayes of Grand Island, NE
Children and their spouses, Carol (Robert) Fritz of Owatonna, MN
Sandra (Ed) Kehler of McCook, NE
Greg (KayLynn) Hayes of Grand Island, NE
Roland (Kari) Hayes of St. Joseph, MO
Tyler (Sophista) Hayes of McCook, NE
A sister, Elaine Huff of Denver, CO
Others left to cherish his memory include his six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Lewis received his education in Central City NE and Atkinson NE. He entered the U.S. Marine Corp on February 10, 1951, at Denver, CO serving until his honorable discharge on February 9, 1954. He married Dolores Conlin on October 16, 1954 in Loveland, CO. They made their home in McCook, Lewis was self- employed, owner of McCook Water Conditioning. He retired in 2000 and moved to Grand Island in 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Jane Hansley.
Memorials are suggested to the McCook Humane Society in Lewis' name.
