Obituary

Lester L. Lamm passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 97 at Country House Residence in Grand Island, NE. Services will be Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 11, 2026, from 4 - 6 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. You are encouraged to sign Lester’s guestbook at www.curranfuneralchapel.com under his obituary. Lester was born on a farm near Imperial, Nebraska on December 31, 1928 to Ernest and Katie (Teng) Lamm. At an early age he moved with his parents to Grand Island, NE. He attended rural school and then graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. He worked at Model Laundry, Fairacres Dairy, and taught rural school, working his way toward a college education. He attended Nebraska Central College (Central City), and later graduated from Midland Lutheran College, where he was a member of Blue Key. He went on to graduate from Central Lutheran Theological Seminary located in Fremont, Nebraska. He served as an ELCA Lutheran Minister, including parishes in Scribner, Uehling, and Alliance, Nebraska. Later, he graduated from the Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas. He passed the Nebraska Bar and practiced law for several years. He was then on the Adjunct Faculty at Western Nebraska Community College (Scottsbluff), where he taught Business Law.

On September 29, 1957, he married Georgien Ruth Havekost at West Point, NE. Their love of travel brought them to all 50 states, plus many other countries. Their love of reading, travel, art, and music was firmly instilled in their four fine sons.

Lester is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Georgien of Grand Island, NE

He is also survived by sons Mitchell (Jaehne Moebius) Lamm of Burwell, NE

Dwight (Sonja) Lamm of Boulder, CO

Barry Lamm and partner Troy Sanford of New York, NY

Thatcher Lamm of Grand Island, NE

Others survivors include brother-in-law Bob Palmeiro of Foster, RI; niece, Nicole Sherwood of Foster, RI; nephews Noel Peters of Herman, NE and Stephen Peters of West Point, NE; and three furry, feline friends: Tux, Chandler, and Scout.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Katie (Teng) Lamm; in-laws George and Ruth (Marxen) Havekost; sisters-in-law Carolyn Peters, Kathleen Palmeiro; brother-in-law Verne Peters; nephews Justin and Brendan Palmeiro and Lyle Sherwood; and numerous furry, feline friends.
