Obituary
Leonard E. Williams, 76, of Grand Island, NE died Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Grand Island Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Services are scheduled for Monday, August 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Josh Sikes will officiate. The service will be livestreamed on Curran Funeral Chapel's Facebook page. The family will host friends until 4 p.m. at Full Circle Venue following the service. Memorials are suggested to the family with designation at a later date. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Leonard was born April 17, 1945, in North Loup, NE, the son of Melvin L. and Gladyce (Boyce) Williams. He grew up in North Loup graduating from North Loup-Scotia High School in 1963. He continued his education at Kearney State College for several years. Leonard worked various construction jobs before beginning his career with New Holland in 1967. He married Judy K. Jess on August 21, 1966, in Scotia, NE. The couple made their home in Grand Island. Leonard loved baseball and was involved with the sport throughout his life. He began playing Legion ball as a youngster in the 1950's, later traveling throughout the area and pitched for Scotia and Ord in the Sherman Howard League. His baseball and softball families played a significant role in his life. He was coach/manager of the 2001 Class C National Championship Fastpitch Softball team and was inducted into the Nebraska Softball Hall of Fame in 2006. Leonard retired from New Holland in 2005 after 38 years of service.
Leonard enjoyed yard work and spending the day with is dog "Dude". He loved time spent with his grandchildren, watching their sporting and school activities.

Others left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren, Lucas (Ana) Canfield, Madison (Richard) Esquistin, Spencer Canfield, Ryley Canfield, Skyler Williams, Quinn Williams, Sydney Williams, Owen Williams.
