Kenneth L. Berggren, 77, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, surrounded by his family. Services will be Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Marys Cathedral. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski Jr. will officiate. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 2, 2015, from 5 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Berggren will be cremated following the vigil service. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Ken was born April 14, 1937, at Scandia, KS. He was the son of Warren and Myrtle (Miller) Berggren.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 54 years, Lorene M. Berggren of Grand Island, NE

Three sons and daughters-in-law, Kirk and Julie Berggren of Overland Park, KS

Lance and Shelly Berggren of Grand Island, NE
One brother, Dean Berggren of Snyder, OK
One sister, Janet Weir of Courtland, KS
Others left to cherish her memory include his grandchildren, Nicholas and Michaela Von Busch, Kyler and Logan Erickson, Marshall and Chase Carey, Taylor, Jacob and Elijah Berggren, Ezri and Aden Berggren.
Ken grew up in Republic, KS graduating from Republic High School in 1955. He married Lorene M. Swiercinsky on September 3, 1960 at Belleville, KS. They lived in Grand Island where Ken was a Civil Engineering Technician for the Department of Interior for 34 years retiring in 1991.
He enjoyed K-State football, KU basketball, family holidays, grandchildren sporting events, golf, traveling and being married to the love of his life for 54 years.
He was a member of St. Marys Cathedral and the Knights of Columbus.
Memorials are suggested to St. Marys Cathedral or the Salvation Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Merrick Von Busch.
