John E. Kramer, 89, of Grand Island, NE, died Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the V.A. Medical Center in Grand Island, NE. Services will be Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The United Veterans Honor Guard and U.S. Navy Honor Team will provide military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 30, 2014, from 5 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
John was born May 30, 1925, at St. Paul, Nebraska. He was the son of Joseph F. and Cashmera (Gareski) Kramer.
Survivors of the immediate family include his daughter and sons-in-law, Linda and Darrell Helm of Sioux Falls, SD

Sister, Marie Gruber of Grand Island, NE
Brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Connie Kramer of Box Elder, SD
Others left to cherish his memory include his three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, his special friend Betty Thompson of Grand Island, and numerous nieces and nephews.
John grew up in St. Paul, graduating from St. Paul High School. He entered the U. S. Navy after high school serving August 6, 1943 to March 16, 1946. He returned to St. Paul after his honorable discharge. He married Neva Whartman in 1947. They lived in St. Paul where he was employed at Petersons Chevy. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD where John worked at Kings Auto Trim for 10 years. In 1967 he moved to Grand Island working for Haden Construction, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the VFW Post #1347.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine K. Cathy Cremeen, a brother Harry Kramer and a sister, Helen Schriner.
Memorials are suggested to the family as a memorial will be established in Johns name at a later date.
