Joann J. Ihde, 80, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Thursday, October 20, 2011, at Wedgewood Care Center. Mrs. Ihdes wishes were to be cremated. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Joann was born July 10, 1931, at Seward, Nebraska. She was the daughter of John W. & Winifred (Jewett) Cardwell. Survivors of her immediate family include two daughter & sons-in-law, Deborah & Gary Morgan of Ellijay, GA Pamela & Stevan Hall of Grand Island, NE One son, Mark Ihde of Centennial, CO Others left to cherish her memory include four grandchildren & their spouses, Greg & Julie Henninger, Brice & Joanie Morgan, Brooke Ihde, Kalyn Groenewold, and four great grandchildren. Joann grew up in Seward and graduated from Seward High School in 1949. After her schooling she married August C. Ihde at Seward, NE. Mr. Ihde worked for the Nebraska State Patrol so the family lived in Alliance, Nebraska City and Columbus before moving to Grand Island in 1970. While in Grand Island Joann was employed as a Matron for the Hall County Sheriffs Department. She retired in January of 1986 after 15 years of service. Mr. Ihde died October 17, 1985. Joann was an avid reader. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband August, and one brother, Lloyd Cardwell. Memorials are suggested to Humane Society.
