Obituary

Jeanne W. Field Cretzler, 94, of Grand Island, NE died Sunday, September 14, 2014, at her home. Jeannes wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with the family greeting friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Private family inurnment will be in the Maple Creek Cemetery near Beaver City, NE at a later date. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Jeanne was born February 24, 1920, at Stamford, NE. She is the daughter of Lyman H. and Anna W. (Beins) Williams. Survivors of the immediate family include a son, Larry Field of Weatherford, Texas Daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Lorin McConnell of Hutchinson, KS Grandchildren and spouses, Will McConnell, Lori and Charles Shockley. Great grandchildren and spouses, Matt and Ladae McConnell, Makayla McConnell, Alec Loyd, Abygail Shockley, Charles Shockley, Christian Shockley. Great great grandchildren, Mason McConnell, Addison McConnell. Jeanne grew up in Harlan County, Stamford and Orleans, Nebraska. She graduated from Alma High School in 1937. She continued her education at Hastings Beauty Academy graduating in 1939. She was a hair stylist working in Hastings, North Platte, and Grant, Nebraska. She married Joe Field on January 19, 1942, in Grand Island. She later married Howard Cretzler on December 2, 1972. Howard died January 1, 1997. Jeanne owned and operated Jeannes House of Beauty in Grand Island, NE retiring in the early 90s. Jeanne was a past member and District Director of National Hairdressers and Cosmetology Association, Eagles Auxiliary #378, a member, Past Trustee, Past President (1991), Charter Member of G.I., B.P.O DOES #147, past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed working in her yard and with her flowers. Memorials are suggested to B.P.O. Does #147 Scholarship Fund or the Grand Island Crisis Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Cretzler, brothers, Leland, Clark, Donald and Dale Williams, sisters, Irma Wood, Dorothy Loreman and Clara Victory.
