Obituary

James V. Yount Sr., 88, of York, NE died Saturday December 2, 2023, at York General Hearthstone, in York, NE. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. David L. Rykwalder will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a vigil service at 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Heather Miller, 216 13th St., Aurora, NE 68818. You are encouraged to sign his guestbook at www.curranfuneralchapel.com under James' obituary. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. James was born September 30, 1935, in Grand Island, NE. He was the son of Leonard and Marie (Puncochar) Yount. James grew up in Grand Island graduating from St. Mary's High School, where he played basketball and mastered the trombone and harmonica. He was drafted into the Army and stationed in Hawaii, returning to Kearney, NE after his honorable discharge. He managed Brown Shoe Store in Kearney, NE. James married Mary G. Rosser on September 20, 1961 in Kearney, NE. The couple moved to Grand Island, James managed Brown Shoe Store in Grand Island. James later worked for Skagway managing the shoe department and later moving to the furniture department. He was employed at Robertson's Home Furnishings in the early 80's with his wife Mary until both began working for Lukesewicz Furniture in Farwell, NE in the early 90's. Mary died in 2002. James was reunited with his high school sweetheart Nancy (Boyle) Collins and they were wed on May 8, 2005. They made their home in Omaha, NE. James worked at Hy-Vee deli until Nancy's passing in 2020, at which time his youngest daughter took him into her home. James moved into York General Hearthstone, where his daughter worked, in the fall of 2020. James was an avid Husker football fan and a fan of all sports. He especially loved supporting his three daughters in their sporting and school activities. He enjoyed antiquing and had a booth in a shop with his first wife Mary. He loved all the doggies & enjoyed going to movies & was on a bowling league for many years & quite good! James was a kind gentle soul quick to give a complement and ask how your day was going. He will be missed. James was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, a member & lay-person of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Omaha. James is survived by his children, daughters, Heather A. Miller of Aurora, NE Lisa D. (David) Schroeder of Murrieta, CA Son, James V. Yount Jr. of Omaha, NE Step son, Timothy Collins of Omaha, NE Sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara (Al) Kapustka of Tomball, TX Sister-in-law, Susan (Boyle) and Doug of TX Step sisters and step brother-in-law, Pam Field of Minneapolis, MN Kris (Doug) Marlatt of Cottage Grove, MN Others left to cherish his memory include his five grandchildren, six great grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Mary and Nancy, daughter, Beverly Yount, sisters, Alice, Anna Mae, Patricia, and brother George, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margaret and Max Moore, and step-brother, Doug Field.
