James F. Jim Carter Jr. , 85, of Grand Island, NE, died Monday, January 24, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center. Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Deacon John Farlee will officiate. There will be no visitation. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Jim was born November 30, 1925, at Petal, Mississippi. He was the son of James F. & Anus (Odom) Carter Sr. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 60 years, Helen Carter of Grand Island, NE One daughter Sharon Haverstick of LaVista, NE Grandchildren & their spouses, Shane & Kelle Haverstick of LaVista, NE Angie & Ben Stock of Bismarck, ND Jim grew up in Petal, Mississippi and received his education there. He married Helen Gannon in October of 1950 at Iowa. They lived in Mississippi before moving to Grand Island, NE in 1962. Jim was a self-employed contractor/painter and truck driver. He enjoyed working with his hands and building things. He was a member of the Sheriffs Posse, the Platte-Duetsche and the Eagles Club. Memorials are suggested to the familys choice. He is welcomed into heaven by his daughter, Emma Joy Carter, his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
