Irene L. Miller, 87, of Grand Island, NE, died Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Edgewood Vista, in Grand Island, NE. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, November, 16, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. The celebrant is Rev. James R. Golka. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 15, 2017, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Irene was born April 7, 1930, at Holstein, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Frank and Angela (Parr) Hemberger.
Survivors of her immediate family include her daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn & George Fairbairn of St. Paul, NE
Lori & Paul McGinnis of Cozad, NE
Sons, Lyle Miller of Doniphan, NE
Randy Miller of Grand Island, NE
Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Andy Fairbairn, Sara and Henry Rathjen, Emily Fairbairn, Adam McGinnis, and Margaret McGinnis, great grandchildren Ramsey and Cami, Rider, and Brinley.
Irene grew up in the Holstein area on the family farm. She graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1948. She worked as a nurse's aide at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. She married Raymond H. "Ray" Miller on November 29, 1950, at Hastings, NE. They lived in Holdrege and Kearney before moving to Grand Island in 1956. Irene worked at home raising her children, gardening, and keeping house. She and Ray enjoyed traveling. Ray died October 18, 2010.
Irene loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, aerobics, dancing and shopping.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral for over 61 years, part of its altar society, the Platt-Duetsche, and Liederkranz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray, sisters, Marge Phillips, Bonnie Hemberger, brothers, Alfred Hemberger, and Ken Hemberger.
