Howard G. "Hap" Isbrandtsen, 91, of Bellevue, Ne formerly of Sargent, NE, died, Saturday, October 13, 2018, at CHI Health Bergan Mercy in Omaha, NE. Services will be Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel, in Grand Island, NE. Laurie Morrison will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Nebraska Veterans Home Memorial Cemetery, in Grand Island. Military honors will be rendered by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Team. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Howard was born February 20, 1927, at Brady, NE. He was the son of Frederick Jacob and Jennie May (Parsons) Isbrandtsen and the oldest of 7 children.
Survivors of his immediate family include his son, Dennis J. Isbrandtsen and wife Melissa of Plattsmouth, NE and three grandchildren. Howard is also survived by sisters Mildred Vocke of Iowa and June Conway of Texas.
Howard grew up in Brady, NE. He attended school in Loup City, Ne. He entered the U.S. Army serving from April 24, 1945 until his honorable discharge on October 31, 1965. He returned to Milford, NE where he completed his certification of Diesel Mechanics at Southeast Community College. He married Leta D. Wittmuss on March 24, 1967, at Milford, NE where Dennis was born. They moved to Sargent, NE in 1968, where Howard was employed at Peterson Drake until its close in the early 80's. He then worked at Monfort in Grand Island for 10 years until he retired and returned to Sargent. Leta died December 31, 2012.
He enjoyed gardening, fixing tractors, cutting wood, and working hard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leta, sisters Louise, Shirley, and Beverly Jo and brother William "Bill".
