Helen M. Carter, 81, of LaVista, NE, formerly of Grand Island, NE, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Papillion Manor in Papillion, NE. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Friday, May 16, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. The Rev. Jonathan D. Sorensen will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 15, 2014, from 5 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Helen was born January 3, 1933, at Greeley, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Mike and Polly (Schenck) Gannon.
Survivors of the immediate family include her daughter Sharon Haverstick of LaVista, NE
Grandchildren and their families, Shane and Kelli Haverstick and son Barrett
Angie and Ben Stock and daughter Devin
One brother, George Gannon of Lancaster, CA
Helen grew up in Greeley and attended high school there. She married James F. Carter Jr. in October of 1950 at Iowa. They lived in Mississippi before moving to Grand Island in 1962. Helens work was raising her children and she also helped Jim with his contractor business. Jim died January 24, 2011.

She is welcomed into heaven by her parents, her husband, Jim and a daughter Emma Joy Carter, a brother, John Gannon and her twin sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Bud Pittz.
