Obituary

Hazel J. Peg Lacy, 89, of Grand Island, NE, passed peacefully from this earth on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Tiffany Square Care Center, surrounded by her family and friends. Services will be Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gary Harris will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, September 1, 2014, from 4 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. Peg was born April 5, 1925, at Cairo, NE. She was the daughter of Emil and Hazel G. (Orndoff) Luhn. Pegs mother passed away when Peg was three weeks old and she was raised by her grandparents Orlando and Sarah Orndoff. Peg grew up in Cairo, NE graduating from Cairo High School in 1943. She worked at the Army Ammunition Ordinance Plant and International Harvester where she met her husband and the love of her life, Melvin W. Lacy. The happiest day of her life was when they married on February 11, 1949, in Grand Island, NE. With Mels job, they lived in Gothenburg, Ainsworth, Broken Bow, and Grand Island. Mel passed away on July 26, 1978. Peg lived the rest of her life in Grand Island where she worked as a bookkeeper for Wheelers, retiring in 1987. Survivors of the immediate family include her son and daughter-in-law, Craig Lacy (Liz) of Port Byron, IL, daughters and son-in-law, Patty Obermeier (Mark) of North Platte, NE and Marti Lacy of Grand Island, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren and their spouses, Allison Gristy (Jordan), Andrew Lacy (Sarah), Christopher Lacy (Becca), Kellie Dodge (Kendal), Kyle Obermeier (Ally), step grandchildren, Laura Robinson (Lannie), Emily Downing, great grandchildren, Claire Gristy, Asher Dodge, Mallory, Zoey, and Ashlyn Robinson. Half-brothers and sister-in-law, Neil Luhn (Kay), Seward Luhn (Carol), Phillip Luhn all of Washington, half-sister and brothers-in-law Marilyn Nielson (Marty), Janice Edwards (Bob) all of Washington, and Diana Gilstrap (Gil) of Colorado. Sister-in-laws, Esther Luhn, Marjorie Lemons (Marvin), Wauneta Lilienthal (Ray), and brother-in-law Gordan Lacy (Marilyn). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Peg loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed all sports especially when her children and grandchildren participated. She loved the outdoors, dogs, and was an avid NE Cornhusker sports fan. Peg touched the hearts of all those she met. She had the most gracious, kind, and giving spirit; always putting others before herself. Her faith was very important in her life and her family wants to say, Well done, good and faithful servant. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those she touched. Peg was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, volunteering as a pre-school chaperon and assisting weekly counting the collection. Memorials are suggested to the familys choice. She is welcomed into heaven by her husband, parents, step-mother Grace Luhn, brother and sister-in-law, Delbert Luhn (Beulah) and brother LaVern Luhn.
