Obituary
Harvey K. "Kenny" Reyner, 88, of Grand Island, NE, died Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Tiffany Square Care Center. Services will be Monday, January 14, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Sheri Lodel will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors rendered by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Team. A closed casket visitation will be Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 4 – 6 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Kenny was born March 31, 1930, in Grand Island, NE. He was the son of Harvey and Stella (Power) Reyner. They lived on a farm north of Marquette, NE. located on the south bank of the Platte River. He attended Cedar Hill District 76, later graduating from Central City High School in 1947. He continued his education at the University Nebraska Lincoln completing his degree in 1951. While at UNL he joined the Navy Reserve and served 49 months. He entered the U.S. Army on December 5, 1951, serving until his honorable discharge on November 4, 1955. Kenny especially loved being on the farm and spending time with all things agriculturally related. In 1951 he began raising milo as well as sheep. He married LaJean Pfluckhahn on September 4, 1955, at Grand Island, NE where they made their home. Kenny began working at the Grand Island Social Security office on September 26, 1954 retiring at age 55 on April 1, 1985. In retirement he helped Daryl Baxter and Leo Mettenbrink harvest corn. LaJean died May 10, 2008.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 53, and the Platt-Duetsche Society.
Kenny was an avid duck hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors of his immediate family include his daughters and son-in-laws, Becky and Marty Borges of Grand Island, NE
Julie Reyner of Grand Island, NE
Sheila and Hunter Harman of Lincoln, NE
Others left to cherish his memory include his nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife LaJean.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Snow Redfern Foundation, 224 Box Butte Ave., Alliance, NE 69301.
