Harold Cody Medlen, 81, of Grand Island, NE, died Monday, February 14, 2011, at Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln, NE. Graveside services will be Friday, February 18, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings, NE. Dr. Sam Rathod will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens at Hastings, NE. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Friday at Curran Funeral Chapel. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Cody was born November 4, 1929, at ONeill, NE. He was the son of John H. & Myrtle M. (Doolittle) Medlen. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 59 years Jacqueline Jackie Medlen of Grand Island, NE One son & daughter-in-law, Dale & Donna Medlen of Sioux Falls, SD Five grandchildren & seven great grandchildren. Cody grew up and received his education in ONeill and Red Cloud, NE. His father owned and operated 4th Street Market and Cody worked for his father learning the butcher trade. He married Jacqueline Reichstein on July 16, 1951 at Smith Center, KS. They lived in Chambers and Hastings, before moving to Grand Island in 1969. Cody was employed as a butcher for Skagway, Food 4-Less, and Super Saver. He retired in 2005. Memorials are suggested to the familys choice.
