Geralda I. "Gerrie" Johnson, 96, of Grand Island, NE died Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Prairie Winds Assisted Living in Doniphan, NE.  Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  The Rev. Donald A. Buhrman and Rev. Martin L. Egging will concelebrate.  Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a vigil service at 6 p.m.  Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.  Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or Grand Island Central Catholic.  Your thoughts and prayers may be given at www.curranfuneralchapel.com under Gerrie's obituary.

Gerrie was born June 26, 1927, in St. Libory, NE. She is the daughter of Theodore and Agnes (Grotz) Buhrman.

Grandchildren: Joe, Luke, Kurt, Jake and Kellon Johnson, Jamie Baldwin, Sarah LaBrie, Dylan Redman, Steph Connick, Drew and Robert Schaeffer, Richie and Nathan Razey and Tarah Ondracek.

Great grandchildren, Katelyn, Abigal, Elizabeth and Jack Connick, Bria, Callee and Delaney Schaeffer, Aubree, Ryatt, and Logan Johnson, Alex Eaton, Ben and Evie LaBrie, Isla Baldwin, Kashlyn and Riggs Ondracek and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gerrie grew up in St. Libory graduating from Grand Island Sr. High School in 1946.  She married Howard Johnson on September 9, 1950, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island, NE.  They lived in Grand Island where they raised their five children.  Gerrie was employed at the Ordinance Plant from 1967 to 1974.  She was a sales associate for Sartor Hamann Jewelers for 32 years retiring in 2007.  She was an avid gardener who enjoyed working in her yard and was a master seamstress.  She enjoyed card playing at the Platt-Duetsche, The Elks Club, and any opportunity to play with family and friends.  Gerrie enjoyed Husker Volleyball and was an avid K.C. Royals fan.  She especially loved attending her children and grandchildren school and sporting events.  She was a reliable Crusader Silver and helped with projects whenever she could.

Gerrie was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Queen of Peace #2227 and the Platt-Duetsche Auxiliary.

Gerrie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, a son, Todd Michael Johnson, brothers, Leroy, Cliff, Marvin and Reuben Buhrman and sister Berniece Vinson.
