Visitation will be Monday, November, 5, 2012, from 4 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Gerry A. Kelly was born May 13, 1947, the fourth child to the parents of John and Gertrude (Casey) Kelly. He spent his entire childhood on the Kelly farm in Greeley, Nebraska, where he was baptized and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church; he always spoke, with devotion, of his years as an altar boy, and the privileged education he received from the priests and Dominican Sisters. Gerry attended grade school at District #19, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1965. He participated in many sports and excelled on the football team. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, served in the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was a proud and active member of the American Legion Charles E. Martin Post #186, Greeley, Nebraska. Gerry started his truck driving career working for his brother Leo in Omaha, Nebraska. He worked for several trucking companies in the Omaha area before starting his career with Federal Express Ground Freight. He retired from Federal Express in Las Vegas, Nevada, after 20 years of dedicated service. He received many certificates of achievement and gifts of appreciation for his safety records and outstanding service and loyalty to the company. He retired to St. Paul, Nebraska where he enjoyed visiting and traveling rural Nebraska with his brother Bob and friend George, almost daily, until ill health kept him close to home. He loved being with his friends and family and always made each and every one feel like they were the most important person in the world. He had the heart of a saint and the eyes of an angel, with the most contagious smile that always lit up his face. He especially loved watching his grandchildrens sports events and attended every game that he could, even when he struggled with poor health. Gerry was proud of his Irish heritage, his country, his faith, and his family. He had many friends throughout the country, and was a trusted friend for life. He had the privilege of traveling to the Caribbean, Mexico, Ireland, Kentucky, and of course, driving coast to coast in his business career. He loved Irish, Polka and Country music, working in his yard, all sports games, NASCAR races, camping, fishing, and visiting no one was a stranger to him. Gerry is survived by his high school sweetheart, Donna, of St. Paul, Nebraska, 3 sons, Gary (Kirsten) Kelly of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Greg Kelly, St. Paul, Nebraska, Kevin Kelly and mother Vickie, Shenandoah, Iowa; two daughters, Jackie (Bryan) Cliffords, Janel Zelasney, both of Osceola, Nebraska. He was very proud and adored his 22 grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Bob (Emily) Kelly of St. Paul, Nebraska, Charlie (Lori) Kelly of Las Vegas, Nevada, two sisters, Mary Ellen (Art) Peck of Sandy, Utah, Eileen (Charles) Viator of Iowa Park, Texas, and sister-in-law Donna Kelly of Oakland, Iowa. Two adorable aunts, Sister Columba Casey of St. Catharine, Kentucky, and Lorraine Kelly of Greeley, Nebraska. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. His little furry companion, Coco, will miss his sweet, gentle voice. Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, brother Leo Kelly, grandson Jeffrey Gray, two nieces, Rita Kelly and Casey Frink, and one grandnephew Jensen Christensen. The family wishes to express our gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at the St. Paul Hospital and VA Medical Facility in Grand Island and Omaha, for their loving care and support.
