Francis "Lyle" Scripture, 89, of Grand Island, NE, died Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Riverside Lodge, surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February, 2, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev Donald A. Buhrman, Rev. Charles L. Torpey, and Rev. James R. Golka, will concelebrate the funeral mass. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy Honor Team. Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2019, from 5 – 7 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Lyle was born September 9, 1929, at Primrose, NE. He was the son of Frank and Madeline (Peterson) Scripture.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 66 years, Jo Scripture of Grand Island, NE
One son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Stephanie Scripture of Saudi Arabia

Others left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren and their spouses, Cassandra and Kevin McKenzie, Erin and Matt Planap, Nicole and Josh Compton, Marisa Ross, Amanda and Zac Summers, Madeline McMindes, Kyle McMindes, Lachlan Scripture and eight great grandchildren.
Lyle lived in Primrose before moving south of Greeley, NE as an infant. He graduated from Greeley High School in 1946. He entered the U.S. Navy on November 4, 1948, serving two years in Korea. He received five Bronze Stars, one Silver Star, a China Service Medal, and U.S. Navy Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 3, 1952. He returned to Grand Island and was employed at Cates Tire Company for two years. He married Josephine Ann "Jo" Nelson on January 14, 1953 in Wood River, NE. They moved to Greeley, NE for a short time before moving back to Grand Island. Lyle continued to work at Cates Tire Company retiring after 27 years in sales. He then began his career with the City of Grand Island working as an equipment operator, retiring in 1993.
Lyle enjoyed spending time with the children and grandchildren. He loved traveling the U.S., with Jo, in their motor home, especially their winters spent in Mesa, AZ. He loved camping, boating, and fishing with his family and friends.
He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, VFW, and past member of their camping club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Jean Foster, Bessie Scripture, and a brother, Cletus Scripture.
