Frances Katharine Molyneaux Kruse died early in the morning of September 9, 2015. All of her immediate family were in Grand Island to be with her. She was preceded in death by her husband, P.M. (Pete) Kruse, daughter-in-law Patricia Anne, sisters Jo Kendrick and Virginia Shea, and brother Lou Caronna.
Fran was born and grew up in New York City. She graduated from Jamaica High School in 1938. Following high school, she went to the Grace Institute Secretarial School, and then began work as a secretary. Shortly after starting work, she met her future husband, who had moved from Nebraska to New York to learn the welding trade. They married on October 26, 1940, and sons Pete, Gary and Steven were born there.
The family returned to Nebraska in 1946 and settled in Grand Island. Soon after, daughters Betty and Georgia were born. Fran was a stay-at-home mom with her five children until Georgia started school and oldest son Pete started college. She held several jobs over many years: at Greenbergers as a bookkeeper, at Nash-Finch Company and Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant as a computer operator and data processor, and at Bob Hindman and Associates as a bookkeeper and office manager. During this time all of her children finished high school and graduated from college.
Fran loved to do crafts. She was an exceptional seamstress, often putting together complicated pieces of her own design. Later she started making sock monkeys. Her entire family became recipients: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and close friends.
Most important to Fran was her family. She was married to her husband Pete for 38 years, when he passed away. Her mother and her sister moved to Grand Island, and she cared for them when they became ill. She was always interested in the activities of her children and was proud of their successes. She visited them often and was close to her grandchildren
Fran is survived by her sons, Pete (Denice) Kruse of Grand Island, NE, Gary (Cindy) Kruse of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Steve (Nancy) Kruse of North Platte, NE, her daughters Betty (Rick) Kapernick of Los Alamos, NM, and Georgia (Roger) Snyder of Las Vegas, NV, seven grandchildren (Sloan Power, Gary Kruse, Stacey Kruse, Brian Kruse, Kerri Deibert, Erik Kapernick and Jeff Kapernick), and ten great-grandchildren. The family would also like to thank Frans family in New York for how much they cared for her and did for her, especially Maureen McPartland. We will all miss her warm and giving spirit and her sense of humor.
On Sunday, September 13, there will be a visitation from 5 PM to 7 PM followed by a vigil service at 7 PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, September 14 at 10 AM, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Fr. Todd K. Philipsen will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends and acquaintances of the family are invited to attend. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Pre School.
