Obituary

Frances S. Fran Koehler, 89, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died, Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Saint Francis Skilled Care. Services will be Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Todd K. Philipsen and Rev. Mark A. Maresh will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 21, 2011 from 4 7 p.m., at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Frances was born August 27, 1921, at Ashton, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Stanley & Mary (Smedra) Smolla. Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter, Pat Foster of Grand Island, NE Two sisters & brothers-in-law, Marge & Dick McLain of ONeill, NE Ernestine & Steve Eurek of Loup City, NE Grandchildren, Angela Rodriguez, Christopher Wisely & Jon Ensley. Great grandchildren, Jessica Wisely, Ashley Wisely, Alysia Strong, Emilio Rodriguez, Joey Rodriguez, Alex Rodriguez, Katelyn Rodriguez. Frances received her education at Rockville, Nebraska, graduating in 1939. She began working at the Ordinance Plant and later Skagway in the shipping and receiving. She married Ray Koehler on December 29, 1942, at Abilene, TX. They lived in Grand Island. Frances began her career in real estate. She was employed with Home Real Estate, retiring as an Associate Broker in 1994. She was a Brownie leader when her daughter was younger and was an avid supporter of the Polish Heritage Center in Ashton, NE. Mr. Koehler died December 5, 1989. She enjoyed playing Bridge and was a member of several card clubs. She volunteered at the YWCA. She was a Charter member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Charter member of Queen of Peace Court 2227, VFW Post #1347 Auxiliary. She is welcomed into heaven by her parents, husband, Ray, brothers, Edwin, Alex, Joe, Richard, Edward, sisters, Agnes Treffer & Marie Kaslon. Memorials are suggested to the familys choice.
